The Year 5 & 6 pupils enjoyed a focus week on Japan before the summer break. They invited in Peter Bell from North Yorkshire County Council to deliver a workshop covering Japanese food, culture and clothing and learnt a traditional Japanese dance. Mrs Sally Smith, teacher, said:” The children have enjoyed a fantastic week exploring the culture of this Asian country. They had the opportunity to try sushi and traditional Japanese pickled vegetables and cooked a Japanese curry with our Cookery Leader, Mrs Janet Smith. They tried their hand at origami and wrote a ‘haiku’ poem, a Japanese verse of three lines with a strict number of syllables. They also excelled at counting to ten in Japanese, which was not an easy task.
